Do you need your assemblage prepared for archiving?

Sometimes, you'll need help to ensure your assemblage is ready to be stored in the county archive, whether because of a shortage of time, space or resources.

Abbey Archaeology can provide services to ensure your assemblage is ready and meets the county storage requirements.

Below is a list of services that may be needed.

*Just so you know, although we will prepare your assemblage for archiving, we do not manage the depositing or arranging deposition with the relevant county storage.

We offer various services to ensure your assemblage is prepared for archiving.

  • Cleaning and drying the artefacts to prevent the growth of mould during the archiving process.
  • Marking the artefacts with the designated HER reference numbers.
  • Each context and artefact type are separately packaged in labelled polythene archival bags.
  • The archival bags are organised into acid-free archive boxes labelled for the relevant archival facility.
  • All archive boxes will contain a printed list of contents, which will be provided in digital format.

NB: Each human skeleton will be stored in its own archive box for ethical reasons.
